Definition

In probability theory, a finite family of events E iE_i for 0i<n0 \leq i \lt n is said to be mutually exclusive or pairwise mutually exclusive if for all 0i,j<n0 \leq i, j \lt n such that iji \neq j, E iE j=E_i \cap E_j = \emptyset.
