Alexei Bondal (Алексей Игоревич Бондал, spellings also Aleksei, Alexey etc.) is a mathematician at the Steklov Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (and at Aberdeen). He has pioneered, with Mikhail Kapranov, methods of replacing algebraic varieties by enhanced triangulated categories of coherent sheaves leading to early developments of derived algebraic geometry, influencing early works of Kontsevich and of the school of Simpson & Toën.
