nLab jet prolongation

Definition

For $E \to X$ a bundle of smooth manifolds, then the jet prolongation is the map that sends a section $\sigma$ of $E$ to its jet, hence the section of the jet bundle $j^\ast E \to X$ which is defined by all the finite partial derivatives of $\sigma$.
