See this post on Friedman contrasting Cassirer and Kuhn. Cassirer is the structuralist or functionalist, looking for convergence; Kuhn is the substantialist, it’s not just about the mathematics but the coordination too.

If the coordination swings too wildly, why should there be any convergence of structure?
