Abstract. In higher analogy to how a principal connection on a principal bundle provides the globalization of the parallel transport defined by local Lie-algebra valued differential 1-forms, so there is a “higher structure” which provides such globalization for Lie-crossed module valued local 1- and 2-form data: principal 2-connections on principal 2-bundles. I will review some basic concepts from the geometric homotopy theory of smooth 2-groupoids which allow one to get these structures under control.
