Abstract. We first review two classical results of (equivariant) differential topology:
- the unstable Pontrjagin-Thom theorem in Cohomotopy theory
- the equivariant Hopf degree theorem in equivariant Cohomotopy theory.
Then we explain how these old results shed light on open problems in the mathematical foundations of brane physics.
This is joint work with Hisham Sati, based on this preprint:
Equivariant Cohomotopy implies orientifold tadpole cancellation
