A type of monopole solution of Yang-Mills theory with Higgs field included.

In string theory, in the context of intersecting D-brane models, the ‘t Hooft-Polyakov monopole has been identified with the black “half” NS5-brane coincident on an O8-plane (Hanany-Zaffaroni 99). See there at Intersection of D6s with O8s.
